Our Work

Welcome to the Human Rights Advocates of Coos County (HRACC) programs and initiatives. Our work is designed to educate, advocate, and empower the community. Through targeted efforts and annual events, we’re committed to fostering dignity, unity, and resilience in Coos County.

Annual Events

Our Key Programs

Our core events throughout the year bring the community together in celebration, reflection, and action:

  • Celebration of Life: Honoring the 15th anniversary of the Homeless Persons’ Memorial, this event has expanded to remember and celebrate the lives of community members we have lost. Through food, art, and shared experiences, it fosters connection and unity. The event also includes the Lilah Bidwell Human Dignity Award, recognizing contributions to human dignity.

  • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day: A celebration of Dr. King’s legacy, featuring student artwork, community discussions, and a call to continue his work for justice and equality.

  • Gandhi King Season for Nonviolence (SNV): A 64-day campaign from January 30 to April 4, dedicated to promoting nonviolence and social justice through community activities and learning opportunities.

  • César Chávez Day: Commemorates César Chávez’s impact on labor and civil rights, inviting reflection on his contributions and relevance today.

  • Pinwheels for Peace: Observed on September 21, this event invites local schools to create pinwheels as symbols of peace in honor of the International Day of Peace.

  • Human Rights Day: Acknowledging the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, celebrated with educational displays and activities that inspire civic engagement.

Our work centers around three main programs, each designed to meet the unique needs of our community. Explore each to learn more about how we serve and empower Coos County:

  • Education: Teaching and advocacy initiatives that inspire civic engagement and social justice awareness.

  • Growing Through It (GTI): Service-based recovery programs that provide essential resources while promoting self-sufficiency and resilience.

  • Coos County Outreach: Collaborative efforts to support vulnerable populations with access to resources, partnerships, and direct assistance.

“At HRACC, we believe that together we can build a compassionate and just community. Every program, every event, and every shared moment brings us closer to a world where everyone is valued, supported, and heard. Join us in making a difference—because unity is our greatest strength.”
